Happy Chinese New Year! – ushering the Year of the Rooster
Dong dong qiang! Xing nian kuai le! Chinese new year is here again. Haha, February is indeed a month of many occasions…fist was Cny, then valentine’s day, many of my friends’ birthdays n not to forget mine too!
Hwa Chong’s CNY is certainly one that I’ll miss…all the long hours spent especially sewing ‘Rola’ – our chicken centrepiece; hoisting sessions, knotting together lantern/fish shaped angpow for décor; preparing publicity board and website certainly added more meaning to the celebrations. There is possibly the last CNY as it is celebrated now as next year the j1’s will only enter HwaChong after receiving their ‘O’ level results… usually released after CNY. This means that there’ll be no j1’s for CNY. =(
The past week’s been pretty well spent, minus the perpetual load of homework and preparing for tests to do. Still trying to catch up with my work…time is running short, block tests coming up soon. Friday’s discipleship course on servanthood, although slightly repetitive, is indeed refreshing. The reminder that a true leader must also remember to be humble and serve those under his leadership is simply so precise. Friday night, however wasn’t a very nice one to remember. Tasted how 40% alcohol is like, and seen what it can do to you. Shan’t elaborate so much, but the incident that happened was really a clear warning that you have to learn to draw the line in all your actions. The only thing that is endless is compassion. Saturday was a free day and I totally wasted it. *angst*
During YG on Sunday, we had our first lesson and discussion on the topic ‘Victory in Christ’. Ailene prepared many verses that simply tells of all the good things that we have in Christ. There’s one that really struck my mind, the verse that says that we are complete in Christ.
"And you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority."
-Colossians 2:10
It helped me realise that we’ve been made clean from our sins, as sins makes us incomplete before God. Also, there is this realisation that you need not always seek to be like another person you think is better than yourself, there is no need to fret over why you cannot be as good or as skilled or as good-looking…for each of us has been blessed in our own unique ways; God provided for what we are lacking, and our individuality is the different roles we have to play in His mighty family according to His plan for us.
My guitar playing is improving…I can play the intro for God of Wonders and Jing Tian now… smoother transitions with the bass too=) I agree with Paul that if we learn a new instrument and lay-off our pet instrument for some time, we’ll find new inspiration when we practise our pet instrument (me: drums!!!) again. I feel playing another instrument (bass rocks, grooves and walks!...hmm…walking bass, haha) allows a musician to move away from his usual rhythm and creates room for creating new ones, and also to be more sensitive to the playing of other musicians when playing in the band.
Pre-CNY stayover in school was really fun! I love the school during the night, so serene and magnificent. Got motivation to study, as a result almost completed chem. Yay!
CNY was amazing! Our decorations really brought up the mood of CNY in Hwa Chong. The central plaza was covered with red and gold…. with angpows in the sky.haha. really cool. You just get the CNY atmosphere the moment you step into the central plaza. Didn’t regret staying back for the celebrations. Council stall did quite well I think. 7E n 6A had ‘lau yu sheng’…and I missed it, again! Was at staff room…Arrgghhh!!! Super sad. Met a lotta people today, the 30th like kahyong, shida, bean, chris, boxing…my juniors n my mortal, juniors n og19 people…. nice. Did a lot of running around re-supplying the ‘council chicken coup’. Danced Artemis faculty dance with yisheng. Fun but looks gay…hopefully they don’t publish our photo.
Typing this on my way back on a NICE bus. Thought about what happened and what was said to me just moments before heading to the bus terminal. Sense of urgency? Yea, important but not necessary for today. It takes only one minute or two to reach the place to board our bus to KL. And she’s not even taking the bus I’m taking…what right does she have to lecture me on urgency? Talk about experience with transport in Singapore. Sheesh. I held myself from an outburst of arguments. Waste time. I’ll be a gentleman, yes, but if she thinks she’s so great then so be it. Hope she realise someday. Chill, I told myself, chill. No thoughts of revenge here… thou shall not do so. Don’t answer the tempter’s calling.
I’m looking forward to home!
